The ground rules for telling stories here

Svrn is a place for adults to write fiction with characters that remember. These are the terms of that deal: what you can count on from us, and what we ask of you.

The short version

  • Adults only

    You need to be 18 or older to use Svrn, in every mode.

  • Everyone is fiction

    Characters are made up and every reply is written by AI. Nobody here is real, or a therapist.

  • Your stories are yours

    You own what you write, and answer for it. Characters stay private unless you share them.

  • A few hard lines

    Nothing sexual involving minors, no sexual content about real people, no harassment. Ever.

  • Dark is allowed

    Fiction can be dark. You choose what you read and write, and you can stop whenever.

  • Leave any time

    Export your chats or delete your account in Settings. No hoops.

That's the gist, not the contract. The details below are what counts.

These terms are an agreement between you and SVRNSys (“we”, “us”), which runs Svrn at svrnsys.com. By creating an account, continuing as a guest, or otherwise using Svrn, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy and Safety page. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. Who can use Svrn

  • You must be at least 18 years old. Svrn is not for children or teenagers, in any mode.
  • Mature (18+) stories are a separate opt-in. You may turn them on only if you are an adult and it is legal where you live. You are responsible for knowing your local law.
  • We may ask you to confirm your age again, or to use an age-check service, and we may restrict features in some places.
  • If we learn that someone under 18 is using Svrn, we will close their account and delete their data.

2. Your account

  • Give us accurate details and keep your passphrase private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • When you create an account we show you a spare key once. It is the only way to get back in if you forget your passphrase. We cannot see or recover it for you.
  • You can delete your account in Settings at any time. Deleting it removes your saved stories and memories from our servers.

3. What Svrn is, and what it isn't

  • Every character is fictional and every reply is written by an AI model. Characters are not real people, do not have feelings, and are not your friend, partner, counsellor or advisor, however convincing they sound.
  • AI can be wrong, inconsistent, or say things that are odd, upsetting or offensive. Don't rely on a character for facts, or for medical, legal, financial, psychological or safety advice.
  • Svrn is not a mental health service or an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, please contact someone who can help right now. Resources are on our Safety page.
  • Stories can include dark themes. You choose what you create and read, and you can stop at any time.

4. Rules for everyone

You agree not to use Svrn to create, request, share or store any of the following:

  • Anything sexual involving a minor, or a character who is under 18 or presented as childlike. This applies in every rating, whatever the character's stated age or backstory (including “ancient beings in a child's body” and similar). We have zero tolerance and will report it to the authorities.
  • Sexual content about a real, identifiable person, or content that impersonates a real person to deceive or harm.
  • Content that promotes or instructs self-harm, suicide or eating disorders, or that encourages violence against real people.
  • Threats, harassment, doxxing, or hateful content targeting people for who they are.
  • Content that is illegal where you live or where we operate, including terrorism, trafficking and fraud.
  • Attempts to get around our safeguards, age checks or limits, or to use the house model for anything other than your own stories.
  • Scraping, reselling, reverse engineering, or overloading the service, or creating accounts to dodge limits or a ban.

We may use automated checks, and we may review content that is reported to us or flagged by those checks, to enforce these rules.

5. Your content

  • You keep ownership of what you write and of the characters and worlds you create. Svrn is not a publisher of your private stories.
  • You give us permission to host, copy, process and display your content for the purpose of running Svrn for you. That includes sending the relevant parts to the AI model that writes the replies, and storing memories and Codex entries so a story can recall them.
  • You are responsible for your content. What you write, create and share is yours to answer for, not ours. You promise you have the right to use what you put in, and that it doesn't break these rules, the law, or anyone else's rights. If it leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable losses.
  • Copyright and the public domain. You may base characters and stories on works in the public domain (for example myths, folklore and literature old enough that its copyright has ended). Don't share characters, names, or text taken from works that are still under copyright unless you own the rights or have permission.
  • Private and public characters. Characters are private unless you choose to make them public. A public character is shown to everyone on Svrn, including people who aren't signed in when it's rated SFW, with your display name. Others play their own copy: they can't change yours, and if you make it private again, copies they already started stay with them. By making a character public you let other users play and copy it on Svrn.
  • Before a character goes public, an automated check may stop it, for example if it looks like a character from a work still under copyright. It can still be played privately. The check can be wrong, and passing it doesn't mean you have the rights.
  • Portraits. Images you upload must show adults only, must be fully clothed (no nudity or sexual content), and must not be photos of real people. Upload only art you made, have permission to use, or that is in the public domain. Fan art of characters still under copyright may be used privately but can't be shared. Every image is checked automatically before it's saved. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
  • Replies are generated by AI and may resemble existing works by chance. Don't rely on any exclusive rights in generated text, and check what the law says where you live before you publish it.
  • If you give us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.

6. AI models and your own key

  • Replies come from third-party AI models reached through a model provider. Their availability, behaviour and policies are outside our control, and they may change or stop.
  • If you add your own API key, you are using that provider under your agreement with them, you pay their charges, and you are responsible for following their rules. Your key is kept on your device and is sent through our server only to reach the model you chose.
  • We may limit how much of the house model each account can use, and we may change or end free access.

7. Reports and removal

  • You can report a story, character or message from inside the app, or write to admin@svrnsys.com.
  • If you believe content on Svrn infringes your copyright, use the Report button on the character, or write to admin@svrnsys.com with: what was copied and where it is, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, and a statement that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them, with your signature.
  • A public character reported for copyright, or for involving a minor, leaves public view straight away while a person reviews it. Other reports do this once several people make them. If the report holds up, the character is taken down and exact copies can't be shared again. If it doesn't, it goes back up. The creator keeps their private copy either way.
  • Accounts with repeated takedowns lose the ability to share characters, and may be suspended or closed.
  • If someone has shared intimate images of you without your consent, tell us at admin@svrnsys.com. We will review and remove valid requests promptly, and within 48 hours where the law requires it.
  • We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms or harm others, with or without notice.
  • We report apparent child sexual exploitation material, and other content the law requires us to, to the proper authorities.

8. Paid plans

If we offer paid plans, the price, billing period and what is included will be shown before you pay, and the plan will renew until you cancel, unless we say otherwise. Taxes may apply. We'll add the refund and cancellation details here when paid plans launch.

9. Ending things

You can stop using Svrn at any time. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the service. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as our rights over our own software, limits on liability, and how disputes are handled) will survive.

10. Our rights

Svrn, its software, design, art, starter characters and branding belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive licence to use the service as these terms allow. You may not copy or resell it.

11. Warranties and liability

  • Svrn is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any reply will be accurate, safe or suitable for you. We may change or stop features.
  • To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before it arose or US$50.
  • Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some places don't allow certain limits, so some of this may not apply to you.
  • You agree to cover our reasonable losses if your content or your breach of these terms leads to a claim against us. We don't review everything users create, and content shared by users is theirs, not ours.

12. Changes, law and contact

  • We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email and ask you to accept it. If you keep using Svrn after the date shown, you agree to the new terms.
  • These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia and applicable United States federal law, and disputes will be decided in its courts, unless the law where you live gives you the right to use your local courts.
